Long time...

Wow, it's been a long time since I updated hasn't it? Big reason is Curt just did a huge post and it made me realize that I'm just kinda hiding in my own little world, not really listening or sharing :p

Probably the biggest thing going on in my life would be me and Christy... I didn't mention here before on LiveJournal but we've been together for nearly 6 months. :D
No Idea what to say, so I'll just leave it at that ;)

I've been looking into a scholarship recently that would involve working in computer security. It'd be really nice to get, but they require a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. You all know I wasn't doing so hot in chemistry and I was doing it for a long time... I got a 3.0 last spring and it barely affected my GPA. Luckily I went and talked to the guy in charge of this scholarship at the University, and because I've been doing so well in CS so far, I can possibly get that requirement waived if I get B's or better in the first 300 level CS classes. So now I have to work my ass off next semester on my 15 credits of CS classes (probably gonna drop a class - that's a bit much)

You guys all know my old apartment... I moved! Not far, just down two floors :p
To start things off, when I talked to the new people about signing the lease, I was told by the landlord that the lease ended in July, so the new one started in August. Around mid May, I was informed that they made a mistake... and the lease actually ended at the end of May! I'm still not sure if we got all that figured out.
Living on the bottom floor can be rather nice in the summer, so nice and cool... unless there happens to be a sewer problem. Yea, that's right, apparently the sewer go all clogged up (it was so bad there was crap coming out of the drain by the street) and we had it coming out the drain in the closet by the water heater! They didn't just come in and clean things up though... it was bad enough that they had to actually tear up a bunch of carpet and part of the wall! At first I thought, 'oh that's fine, I can live with some guys coming by to fix things for a few days' but then they informed me that they also had to take out the water heater to get to some of it. Hot water I can do without for a few days in the summer... no water at all is a different story.
I had to stay elsewhere for a few days (thanks <3). I'm just glad they were quick about getting the water heater back up and running... unfortunately the painters and carpet people aren't being quite so fast. I was told it would be about a week and a half or so for all of it because my place is on 'high priority' because I'm still living there, but it's been two weeks and I still can't use the living room (all the furniture is moved out of the way and half the carpet is gone)

Work has mostly sucked this summer, we have a lot of management types heading out and because of the transitions, nothing is getting done about all the small stuff - it starts to add up after a while.

I'm sure there's other stuff I haven't mentioned, but that's kinda what's on my mind right now.

P.S. Curt, give me a call sometime after this weekend. I work all day tomorrow and Sunday, need to find out what my work schedule looks like from now until Marching Band starts (the 14th)

finals

Bah, finals week.

It's not TOO bad I guess...

*I got my COMM grade - got a C in the class :D

*Programming languages should be a decent grade (assuming I did as well on the final as I think - I got out of there in half an hour and everyone else was like 'o.O')

*system software - I got 7/8 assignments in, most of them work decently... and decent grades on the tests. I just hope the final didn't kill me too bad :p

*Biggest problem comes in operating systems :(
I got most of the assignments in, most didn't work so well, didn't do too bad on the tests but I don't think I did as well as I could have on my presentation and the operational specification of the linux kernel might just hurt a bit... I only have a page and a half, no idea how that compares to others in the class, but it just seems like it should be a lot longer :(

Only thing left is my OS final... I hope I pass these :p

Computer stuff

I was playing games on my desktop today and after a while, it just randomly restarted itself... the game I was playing generally tends to crash from time to time at random points but it's never restarted the computer.
The real problem came when I let it restart... shortly after it got to the login screen it restarted again... and once more at about the same point. When it started restarting that time I decided it might be a good idea to hold down the power button to turn it off.
I let it sit for a short time and turned it back on, when it started up I ran a full virus scan - turned up nothing. Shortly after the virus scan finished running, it restarted again. Before it finished restarting I turned it off again and pulled out my laptop to have a look around on the internet.
After browsing around here and there, I turned my desktop back on and did a system restore and then backed up files to my external hard drive. Right now it's just sitting there, hopefully it doesn't decide to restart itself again... if it does, I might look into getting a new power supply... a power supply problem is what I saw the most of online based on the symptoms my computer is having. (it might have something to do with the fact that it's 5 years old :( )

Current Mood: Muffins!
I was making muffins this morning and halfway through, I discover that I have no vegetable oil! If it was milk or eggs I'd just run down to the store to grab some... but oil? I decided to experiment and see what happened if I put another egg in instead of the oil.
The result: goofy-looking muffins that are slightly... I don't know how to describe them... maybe 'tougher'? (still good, just interesting :p )

It's nice to be with people sometimes, but it's also nice to be alone. Sometimes it gets lonely... but this path of solitude is the one I know, the one I'm comfortable with.

Don't ask what I intend to do, I'm not certain yet.

I was right... part two of my little plan went FAR smoother than the reformat :)

I expected no trouble from a couple installers and the moving of a few files but after the fun I had with the reformat, you gotta be paranoid ;)

So now, my computer is running much faster than it has in a LONG time and isn't cluttered with useless junk :D

Nice to be back home... with INTERNET.
I was visiting my parents for Christmas and they have *shudder* 56k dialup...

But anyway... since I've been home, I managed to fix a problem that's been bugging me for a few weeks :D
geeky stuff )

Got to see some friends from high school (Rem was even down for a visit!) and visit with my parents for about two weeks, ready for the new semester to start... even though I still have a week and a few days...

P.S. did I mention that I got a B in CS 150 and a C in CS 121 this last semester? :D

One nice thing about my new adviser (and I thought I'd have to go to the CS office to request one after changing majors) is that he sends out e-mails a week or two in advance saying to sign up for an advising slot - as opposed to the Chem department where the advisers didn't know it was time for advising until students started knocking on their door.
So after talking to him to determine what requirements I've fulfilled, which ones I 'technically' fulfill (yay, technicalities!), and what classes I still need, I find that I can graduate in 5 semesters (Spring '09). Not too bad considering when I changed my major :D
The only problem I see is that I'll be taking three CS courses each semester and I can't retake any of them... gotta get it done the first time through. Tough load, hope I can handle it.

I'm sure you guys have guessed it by now, but Maggie + me = together :D

I probably don't have time for it, but as usual, I'm auditioning for Basketball band... and I'll be one of three trumpets - we should have at least five or six...

Apparently they want you to click the link and login to cancel the transaction(which they will grab the information before sending it on to paypal to do its usual thing)

I guess it's a good thing I don't have a paypal account... I probobly would have fallen for it :p

*EDIT*
The interesting thing is: I got this on my University e-mail account... I don't use that account outside of school things o.O
